John:
“I’ve loved working with Catherine Derry BSC on both 'The Great' and ‘Industry' and was delighted to be asked to kick off 'A Thousand Blows' and to work with her in bringing this brilliant, gutsy period piece to the screen.
The historical characters and their personal stories were wonderfully interlinked by Steven Knight’s writing and brought to life by an incredible cast. I am honoured that the work of the whole camera team has been enjoyed and recognised."
Tom:
"Having being brought on to the production of ATB to shoot some significant additional photography for eps 1&2, I had to pleasure of introducing the audience to all the multitude of central characters, weaving them into to their environment; the world of gritty Victorian east london a character in itself. It was fast paced, energetic, visceral; it set the tone for the series.
It was a pleasure playing a small part in this hugely successful project and to share this credit with John and Gabi."
Gabi:
"The team on ‘A Thousand Blows’ ep 1-3 was an absolute dream. Catherine Derry BSC’s lighting was a joy to frame up in. Our camera team was diverse, inclusive and prioritised respect and kindness, which made it easy for everyone to do their best work.
John Piggott’s handheld and steadicam work is so flawless, I was really happy to be B camera op alongside him.
The episode was shot primarily handheld and I love being handheld. Sadly the parts Tom Walden shot were mainly single camera, but I am always admiring of his work, having worked alongside him on "Renegade Nell"."
