Biography

James began his career in the camera department in 2005, primarily working in high-end television drama and feature films as a clapper loader. Inspired by the talented operators he worked alongside, he set his sights on becoming both a camera and Steadicam operator.

After completing the Tiffen Silver Workshop in early 2016, his professional development accelerated. Having been fortunate enough to acquire his own Steadicam rig, he dedicated every spare moment to honing his craft operating on short films and music videos while continuing to assist on larger productions. A handful of step-up Steadicam and operating opportunities on major dramas further boosted his confidence, and in September 2017 he officially transitioned into full-time operating.

Since then, James has worked on numerous productions both across the UK and internationally, drawing on years of observing and learning from some of the industry’s most accomplished operators. With an even balance of A and B camera operating, he finds great fulfilment in his craft and considers himself privileged to do a job he loves.

James joined the ACO in 2021. He has been involved in the early stages of the website development and also since participated in both the geared-head workshop and the Steadicam crane step-on/step-off sessions which are fantastic for tuning and developing skills amongst other ACO members.
